Connacht Finals

The times for the Connacht Finals on Saturday next, August 7th are as follows:

• Barton Shield: 9.30am.
• Junior Cup: 10.30am.
• Pierce Purcell Shield: 11.30am.

Sunday August 8th:

• Senior Cup: 10am.

Connacht Shield team get first win

First round matches don’t get any tougher than an away one against neighbours Strandhill, but Alex McAleenan’s team weren’t found wanting on Monday last. Two wins in Strandhill and two in Rosses Point  looks comfortable, but it was much tighter than the scoreline suggests as four matches went to the 18th.

The next match is against Boyle (h) in a fortnights time, date to be confirmed.

Senior Cup reach Connacht Final

A great victory by our Senior Cup team who produced a spirited display with some excellent golf to capture the provincial Connacht semi final at Ballinasloe Golf Club on 17/18 July last

The format of the competition consisted of the 8 leading qualifying teams from Saturday playing the quarter finals on Sunday morning with the winners contesting the semi final on Sunday afternoon.

Following their success in leading the qualifying stage Co.Sligo won a tight contest against Athlone in the quarter final by 3  – 2

The semi final against  Claremorris produced some great golf by Co.Sligo who recorded a convincing win by 3.5 – 1.5.

Well done to captain David Dunne and all the team who now go on to play Ballinasloe GC  in the Connacht finals in Castlebar on August 7/8.

Pierce Purcell into Connacht Final

The Pierce Purcell team advanced into the Connacht final with a great victory over Galway Bay by 3 games to 2 on Saturday evening last.

This was a solid preformance by Paul Keyes & Nicky Hart team with home advantage proving a decisive factor in the overall result.

Well done to all the panel who now join the Junior Cup & Barton Shield panels in the Connacht Finals on August 7- 8

The Cecil Ewing team were unlucky to lose out to Ballina on Saturday evening last.The outcome of this match could have gone either way as the games were contested in extreme wintery conditions

Pierce Purcell & Cecil Ewing Matches Sat -10/07

The Pierce Purcell team compete in Connacht semi-final against Galway Bay on Saturday the 10th.Paul Keye’s team have home advantage with 3 matches in Rosses Point & 2 away in Galway.First tee off time is 1.45 pm

Later on Saturday the Cecil Ewing team begin this years campaign with a home match against Ballina .First tee off time in this fixture is 2.45 pm.

Barton Shield progress to Connacht Finals

A great victory by our Barton Shield team who produced a spirited display with some excellent golf to capture the Zone Connacht semi final at Ballinrobe  Golf Club last weekend.

The format of the competition consisted of the 8 leading qualifying teams from Saturday playing the quarter finals on Sunday morning with the winners contesting the semi final on Sunday afternoon.

Following their success in qualifying Co.Sligo beat Castlebar in the quarter final by 1 hole.

The semi final against the Ballinasloe saw Co.Sligo produce some great golf to record a convincing win by 6 holes.

Well done to captain Seryth Heavey and all the team who now go on to play Galway GC  in the Connacht finals in Castlebar on August 7/8.

Narrow defeat for Jack O Sullivan team

The Jack O Sullvan team were narrowly defeated by Ballinamore on Wednesday evening last.

The outcome of this contest could have gone either way with all matches being decided on the final holes.

Home advantage  proved decisive with Ballinamore eventually winning  3 1/2 – 1 1/2

Hard luck to Roddy Gaynor/Aiden Anderson & all the panel for all their time & effort over the last few months.

U.15 team win Connacht Title

Co.Sligo had a convincing victory in defending the Connacht under 15 Interclub Strokeplay competition in Westport GC today (July 2).

All of  the players produced a great display of golf to secure the title by a winning margin of 11 shots over runners up Carrick on Shannon.

Barton Shield Qualifying – 3/4 July

 The Barton Shield North Zone qualifying round will take place at Ballinrobe Golf Club on Saturday 3rd June with Co.Sligo team out first at a 1.30 pm tee off time.

The first 8 teams qualify to play in the quarter finals.These are scheduled to take place on Sunday morning 4th July with the semi finals being contested on Sunday afternoon.

Barton Shield - History

Commemorating the former Golfing Union of Ireland president, the Hon Mr Justice Barton, the first club to win the Shield was Portmarnock in 1920. Clubs are represented by two foursomes pairings (playing off scratch).

Jack O’Sullivan -Wednesday 30/06/10

The Jack O Sullivan team begin this year’s campaign with an away fixture to Ballinamore GC on Wednesday evening next.

Three matches are being played in Ballinamore with the remainding 2 games at home.First tee off time is 5.00 pm.

The format consists of 10 players (2 reserves) playing in fourball matchplay contest.The upper handicap limit of any individual player is 20 and the maximum handicap difference between the pair is 8.
